From November 15–18, 2011, 34 delegates met in a Chapter of Elections, to elect a new Provincial Superior and Council for Christ the King Province. Only two years after their last Chapter, Provincial Superior Sr. Theresa Slota was elected General Superior at the SSMI General Chapter in Rome this July. Acting Provincial, Sr. Patricia Lacey, convened this Chapter of Elections.
With daily Divine Liturgy and common prayer and reflection, the delegates worked through a process of communal discernment, with the help of facilitators Sr. Frances O’Brian, SP, Barbara Baker, SP Associate, and recording secretary, Sr. Gail Desarmia, SP.
Beginning with the office of Provincial Superior, each member of Provincial Council was elected in turn, from a slate of gifted candidates nominated by all members of the Canadian Province before Chapter convened. With the official approval of the Council-elect by the Superior General and her Council, the new Provincial and her Council closed the Chapter with individual prayers of blessing over the delegates.
