Христос Раждається!

Christmas 2011

Dear Sisters,

Because the Lord Jesus was born of the holy Virgin, all creation is enlightened. Behold! The shepherds keep watch and the Magi are adoring; the angels are singing hymns of praise, for the Saviour of our souls has revealed himself in the flesh.
(Vespers, Nativity of Our Lord)

Like the magi and the shepherds, we are called to come and worship, to marvel in the miracle that God has become one of us, the miracle that God loves us so much that He greatly desires to be with us. We rejoice in an infinite love that delights in us, that finds joy in loving us.

God came as an infant, vulnerable, totally dependent, approachable. God came in a way that is simple enough to touch the heart of a child, yet deep enough to engage the intellect of a scholar. Like the Mother of God, the magi and shepherds, let us spend time before him in prayer contemplating this unfathomable mystery and allowing ourselves to be loved by him. Let us be filled with his light, his joy, and peace.

Like the magi and the shepherds before us who returned glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, we are called to return to our own world. We are called to be his light, to shine with his brilliance in our fractured and weary world which is filled with hunger, political unrest, war, global debt, climate change, health challenges. God has sent each one of us to be his light, to illuminate the darkness. We are called to boldly proclaim to the world: З Нами Бог!

This evening, when the first star appears and we sing Бог Предвічний let us rejoice and be at peace because God is with us. We look to 2012 and the future with the same kind of trust and faith that our predecessors did before us. We have nothing to fear.

With blessings, love and peace,
