What we offer

Mrs. Boyko offers one-on-one piano lessons of a half-hour or hour duration, to beginning and transfer students, primarily with preparations for Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations in mind.

Theory is offered formally, as co-requisites requirements approach with the graded exams. But it is offered throughout study, as we become familiar with the pieces with which we are working.

Students usually begin at about 7 years of age, though we have taken younger students, depending on their willingness, abilities and parent support. For children in particular, the RCM Exams system offers incremented goals to pursue, and third- party objective critique, with which to gauge the student's progress. Usually, a minimum of two years of pre-exam study is necessary, for a basic proficiency in the exam system. For advanced levels, this also offers the opportunity for provincial high school electives in music.

Adult students, beginners or with some experience, are also accepted, with the option of the RCM Exams.

Throughout the year of study, at least two studio recitals are scheduled. This gives the students an opportunity to test their skill in a friendly atmosphere of peer appreciation. Older students can inspire and encourage the newer ones, and in turn, be encouraged by them. The year-end recital offers an opportunity for a pre-exam 'dry-run', with enough time for final touches in practice times before the exams.

As well, for the really keen students, there is also the opportunity for
out-of-studio performances in the Kiwanis Music Festival, the Ukrainian Music Festival or other private performances or auditions the students wish to pursue, extra-curricularly. Do let your teacher know well in advance, so she can help you prepare to your best advantage!
