Meet Our New Provincial Superior
Sister Patricia Lacey, SSMI – “My father is Irish, my mother is French, а я Українка!” (and I’m Ukrainian!)
Sr. Patricia Lacey was born on September 13, 1946 to William and Dorothy Lacey. She was raised in Yorkton, SK. Upon completing her high school at Sacred Heart Academy, she entered the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. Following her novitiate training in Ancaster, ON, she began her ministry in education. She taught at Sacred Heart Academy/High School in Yorkton, SK where she was also principal for three years. She received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Regina. Later she received a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.
Although not Ukrainian by birth, she was drawn to the Eastern Rite and the Sisters Servants through her formative years at SHA and St. Mary’s Church in Yorkton. Over the years she has continued to immerse herself in the Ukrainian Catholic tradition by studying Eastern spirituality, culture and language. She taught at St. Josaphat’s school in Toronto for seven years.
Eventually, her ministry led her into adult religious education where she served in the Eparchial Catechetical Centres in Winnipeg and Saskatoon. She facilitated retreats in parishes, and for the UCWLC and SSMI Associates. She assisted in the editing of the sacramental preparation program, We are Children of Light. In Saskatoon, she initiated the Eastern sector of the Lay Formation Program for adults of the Eparchy of Saskatoon in conjunction with the Diocese of Saskatoon. On an international level, she served on the International Catechetical Commission for the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, and was involved in writing the Catechetical Directory of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
Within the SSMI Community she has served as superior of various homes over the years, been a member of Provincial Councils, organized Community conferences, and most recently held the office as Interim Provincial Superior from the time of Sr. Theresa Slota’s election as Superior General until her own recent election as Provincial Superior.
We wish her the blessings of the Lord, the protection of the Mother of God, and the guidance of our co-foundress, Blessed Josaphata. God grant her many years! Многая Літа!
